CHARACTER BLOG 2

Since the book is narrated by Lily, the 14 year old protagonist, your challenge will be to describe the events in the chapter from a different character's point of view and show another perspective. This choice cannot be the same as #5. Omniscient narrator is another option.
Chapter 1 Blog 11/4/08
A few days ago Lily pulled me into her room in the middle of the night, close to midnight. She was trying to show me some imaginary bees. I was only in my underwear and really angry with her. It seems that she will do anything to get my attention. Yikes! I wish that I could just have my dog,Snout, instead of Lily. The only thing that girl is good for is bringing me food and selling peaches. She told me that her birthday was coming up and she wanted something. I give her a home and food, but still she wants more. She wants a silver charm bracelet, she claims that all the girls have them. And to make matters worse she went out into the orchard with some boy. She gave me a terrible scare, I called for her and I found her on the ground with her shirt unbuttoned. She told me she was not with a boy, but I know she was. I made her kneel on grits, and she hates that punishment but she deserves it.

Chapter 2 blog- 11/4/08
My name is T-Ray and I am Lily's father. Right now I am very upset with Lily. It started when she and that fool Rosaleen went into town. Rosaleen poured her snuff juice all over three white men's shoes! They got angry and then called the police. Lily and Rosaleen ended up in jail. Rosaleen does not do any help for me! I got Lily out of jail, but left Rosaleen because she is not obeying me anymore. Those white men are going to kill her. Lily, being stubborn, yelled at me for not bringing Rosaleen. Next thing I know I am telling her that her mother did not care about her. Lily didnt believe me and got so upset she ran away! I know she went back for Rosaleen, I am going to get those two in such trouble! They will be begging for forgiveness!

Chapter 3 blog: 11/4/08
Rosaleen's Perspective:

When me and Lily broke out of jail and were traveling to Tiburon, South Carolina, we decided to take a break and go to sleep. I slept very well, and I dreamed that Martin Luther King, Jr., painted my toenails with the spit from his mouth. After we were fully awake, we decided to travel into town and have Lily buy food for us. Lily went to the general store and got some Coca- Colas, barbeque pork sandwiches, and Red Rose Snuff. After Lily came back, we walked down Main Street, and Lily bought a paper at the post office. She was very smart to think that maybe there was a story about us. Luckily, there was not a story, and I was very happy at that moment, but I had no idea what to do next. EL

Chapter 4 - August Boatwright
I was in the middle of making honey when my sister May came and got me out of the honey house. May said that we had visitors who wanted to buy honey. I walked with May back to the house to greet the visitors. Standing on our front porch was a young girl about 14 years old and a large African American woman with thick black braids hung over her shoulders. The girl introduced herself and her housekeeper as Lily Williams and Rosaleen Smith. They asked it they could stay for a little while because they had no where else to go. In return they told me that they would work for me and help me in anyway that my sisters and I needed. I let them stay in the honey house because there were two cots in there. They were both very greatful. August Boatwright.

CHAPTER 5
After so much abuse at home, it is nice to be in a place where you feel welcome. The sisters are so kind to us. Personally, I like May the best. The other two, August and June are so friendly too, although June is a little cold with us. Today, when May was helping me clean my stitches, she saw how badly I had been wounded and she started humming "Oh! Susanna." Lily and I told the sisters that I had fallen down the stairs. June told May to leave the house because she was humming. Then June began cleaning my stitches, and she was not as gentle as May. FInally I figured out why
May starts humming "Oh! Susanna." It is because she is trying to ward of unhappiness, and is trying not to cry.
May is a bona fide candidate for the nut house. Besides the crying, She also has to have a banana every morning, and if the banana has even one spot on it, she can't eat it. Sometimes she will go through five every morning looking for the perfect one. You can not just throw out all those bananas, so I try to find ways to make them into meals. finally August told me to throw them away. I like living here and I wish that we could stay here forever. But Lily just needs to tell them the truth, and stop lying. That is her problem though, and I will be content to stay here as long as the lord wills it. -Rosaleen

Chapter 6- Neil
This morning, I was at June's house, helping her fix up some things. June looked so beautiful this morning. I don't understand why she won't just marry me. We have been together for years, and she still won't say yes. Even the two women staying at her house agree. I believe their names are Lily and Rosaleen. They are from Spartanburg County, but I don't believe June likes them much. I got this idea first, when I had to ask her to intoduce me to them. Also, she got angry with Lily when she accidentally burned one of the pancakes. But, they both seem like very lovely young women. June needs to make up her mind soon, because I'm starting to get a strange feeling that she doesn't want to be with me. Maybe if she can get along with Lily her mind will be set straight.

Chapter 7 11-10-08
Today, I met Lily. She is the girl August told me about. She's white! I never would have thought that Lily was a white girl. I first noticed her when I was dancing and she started laughing. I had not known that she was watching me. Then, when I told her I wanted to be a lawyer, I thought she was going to laugh. She said I have never heard of a black lawyer before. After we got past that conversation, I didn't mind Lily. We ate lunch together. May fixed us some bologna sandwiches. I think that Lily and I may become friends.

Chapter 8 11-11-08 Zach -
Today I delivered alot of boxes of honey to selling places all over. I did this while Lily and Ms. August placed labels on the honey,
which they gave to me to deliver. We will definitley make alot of honey money for all the honey we labeled and delivered. I told Lily that
Miss August's honey is 50 cents a pound. It was alot of fun to get to see Lily again.

Chapter 9 11/12/08 Rosaleen

This afternoon when Lily and August came home from saving the bees, they looked like they were about to drop down and faint from the heat! May and I were already drenched with ice cold water because the heat inside the house was making us dizzy. I picked up the sprinkler and got Lily and August soaked, they didn't mind at all. We were having a lot of fun until June came out. Lily decided to spray June with the hose, we all thought that was a horrible idea. August and I thought June would kick Lily up onto the moon for drenching her but they started to fight for the hose. Then they both ended up on the ground laughing. At least Lily was able to become friends wtih June!

Chapter 10 11/13/08- Rosaleen
May had been out at the wailing wall for over twenty minutes. Everyone was getting nervous. August led us outside and we all started screaming for her. I could tell August, June and even Lily were nervous. I knew something was wrong but I didn't want to say anything. We searched the wall and then went into the woods. June and I went to search together and Lily and August stayed by the bank. After a few minutes we heard August screaming. We ran back and found her plunged in the river holding May. June went in after her and the brought her onto shore. I stayed on shore hoping that she wakes up. August said she was dead and I lost it. I began shaking up and down and I couldn't control myself. I saw August and June crying over her and I saw Lily throw up by the tree. I started sobbing so hard. My new best friend had died. My new best friend killed herself.

Chapter 11 11/14/08-Zach
Today we had Mary Day. It was a lot of work to prepare for it, but it was worth it. We ate Mary's honey cakes, although I wasn't able to feed it to Lily. Afterwards, we finished our service with Mary's story. I guess it was to overwhelming to Lily, because she left the honey house into the darkness of night. I followed her, and took her hand in mine. We walked towards the river, and she told me a story about how some boys made her wear fish around her neck until the fish died. Lily talked about how the arrest had changed me, and told me never to be like those boys that made her wear the fish. Then, I kissed her. It was amazing. I really care about her, and one day, I know we can be together.

Chapter 13: Rosaleen
I walked into the honey house. Small shatters of glass jabbed into my feet, and a sticky substance was on the floor. It smelled sweet, and so I figured that honey was all over the floor. I found Lily curled into a ball on the floor. Her arm was red with blood, and she was shivering. I grabbed her arm and tried to shake her to wake her up. She looked exhausted and I could see that she had been crying. I had no idea that she could have been the cause of the mess. I plucked a piece of glass out of Lily’s arm, and led her to a bathroom. Lily observed the white seashell, resting on the windows ledge and I saw her fist wrap around the fragile seashell. I could tell she was in pain, but it was not physical but emotional. The sacks below her eyes sagged, and were red. I asked her to tell me what happened, and what I was afraid of, happened. Lily’s mother had left her, and that was the only secret I ever kept from her. People had talked about it before but I prayed that it was not true. I felt a lump develop in my throat. How could someone have to suffer such an awful truth?

Chapter 14: In the eyes of August
I see Lily every day, sitting down by the river. It tears me apart to see her like this. She barely eats and she hasn't been tending to the bees. June is feeling sad because May will not be getting to see her wedding. Lily walked in on June and I holding onto each other. I hope the message I said to June got across to Lily. Rosaleen got to register to vote and since then she has been going around the house saying that she is going to vote for Mr. Jackson in this years election. I finally was able to get her to see the hive that has no queen. She didn't seem to take that much interest in it. I told Lily the importance of Mary and how she will always be in our hearts. I left her while she was thinking and I am still unsure if she took the words I said to heart. T. Ray had showed up at my door also. I was afraid he was going to seriously hurt Lily because when I walked in, she had a cut running from her ear to her cheek. T. Ray threatened to take Lily home, but Lily stood her ground. I told T. Ray that Lily was welcome here as long as she wants. Then he left, but as he was leaving Lily ran after him. I couldn't quite hear what they were saying but I hope it wasn't anything bad. Since that day, everything has been great. Lily has been enrolled into a high school, Mr. Forrest has been working out Lily and Rosaleen's issues in Sylvan, and Lily has made a new friend in Mr. Forrest's daughter, Becca. Everything couldn't be more great.
